My drawings and prints use the idiom of cartoon imagery and draws heavily upon classical painting traditions as well as 19th century photographers and contemporary artists who also draw upon these traditions such as Joel Peter Witkin and Lisa Yuskavage. The tableaux I create emphasize the expressions and gestures of anthropomorphic cartoon figures to investigate human interactions or the lack thereof in a contemporary culture steeped in isolation and alienation. I often work with black humor, melodrama, violence, themes of sexual and gender nonconformity, and of social dysfunction.
